A Spiritual Journey in Dallas, Texas
Last weekend I drove to Dallas to attend a workshop with Kino Macgregor. She was as brutal as ever! Ha! But, Kino is always worth it. This weekend she spoke a lot about the inner experience and the emotional and spiritual journey that really defines the practice of yoga. What a helpful reminder for me during this post-surgery phase I’ve been in these last few months! (More on the surgery another time…)
Just as I was feeling discouraged as my asana practice has “regressed”, she reminded us that there is no such thing. Practicing with sincere devotion is truly all that matters. Seeking to experience the subtle body, whether my practice is heavy or light, fancy or plain, is what will create more peace and steadiness in my life. No need for second series right now. There is a lifetime of value in half primary…or even just surya namaskar A for that matter!
On a side note, I find that its precisely those moments of acceptance and surrender that lead to the biggest breakthroughs in my practice. When the mind is tense, the body is tense. When the mind gives, the body gives. Maybe not in the way I expected or hoped, but a shift occurs and it is always for the better.
Till next week...
