Levelling Up Ain't Easy
Do you ever go through periods of life where it just feels hard? You’re faced with challenge after challenge with no sign of reprieve. When I've had times like this, I’ve been quick to judge myself; I begin to question if something’s wrong with me for having so much struggle.
But struggle is not something to beat myself up over; it's a necessary part of the natural cycle of growth. When difficulty is present, so is the opportunity to become a better version of myself.
I think facing struggle means you’re a present, thinking, feeling, aware being. It means you’re brave. We all face hard times if we dare to get better at anything in life, or dare to be a better person than we were the day before.
In yoga, how often have you struggled with an asana for a very long time, only to suddenly “break through” to a new level of practice? It’s the same in our lives; we can only reach higher levels when we dare to meet life’s challenges head-on.
The alternative is to never try at the asanas that seem impossible. Or to never try at those things in life that challenge us to the core. That’s a personal choice--to stay where it’s comfortable or to dare for higher heights. But what I know for sure is that the longer we stay engaged with the game of life, or the path of yoga, the greater the challenges will become. But so will the rewards that lie on the other side.
Stay strong, yogis. The next level lies just ahead, within your reach.
