Seventh Series: The most important one
I recently saw a social media clip by Taylor Hunt, in which he speaks of the Seventh Series of Ashtanga Yoga. It is said that both Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and his grandson Sharath refer to family life as “The Seventh Series,” the most challenging and important series of all.
What would we be without our family or loved ones? How would we cope without the support of those around us? The same is true for those who depend on us, especially the little ones: our pride and joy, our children. It doesn’t matter their age, they will always be our babies.
Part of being a parent means being there for our children: helping them, teaching them through play or discipline, and especially caring for them. Once you become a parent, there is no going back; they are your main focus. Even if you don’t have children of your own, you may have nieces and nephews, or close friends that depend on you.
We shouldn’t feel guilty for not practicing when important family issues arise. Our children need us more than we need asana. Caring and tending for them is also a form of practice, for which we have been preparing for every day with our yoga practice.
Watch Taylor’s clip and if you are not following him on social media, you should be!
Lots of love,
