Sharing Yoga with Your Partner
Greetings yogis! While browsing through my yoga photos yesterday, I came across this one my husband and I took a few weeks ago after our usual Sunday morning practice. It made me think about how cool it is to have a partner who also does yoga.
A committed relationship in general is a unique opportunity to witness someone else's journey firsthand. I think that's especially true when you both practice yoga. I enjoy the fact that my husband's reasons for practicing aren't the same as mine, and that he grows and changes in ways different than me. It reinforces how powerful yoga is: the lessons it offers are as varied as the individuals drawn to practice it.
In the beginning, it was challenging not to interject myself and my own thoughts about yoga into my husband's journey--especially because he regularly attends my classes. But now, the enjoyment I derive from witnessing his unique path is all the motivation I need to give him complete freedom and space within his practice.
So, if your partner does not currently practice yoga, keep inviting them to do it with you. Maybe they'll surprise you one day and join you. Then you'll get to witness firsthand the power of yoga in your loved one's life--and what a cool experience that is.
